Covid Picnic

The Covid Virus and its impact…or rather,  not so much.

My daily life was not dramatically changed when the virus hit. We live in the country, we have space, we are self-employed, we adapted. We visited friends but stayed outside and kept our distance. We got together around a bonfire, sipping wine and catching up in muffled speech due to the double-layered masks in the beginning, to the lighter ones a few months further on. From the receptacle by the backdoor to deposit those masks to be laundered after one use, to masks aired, then reused time and again…for better or for worse.

My collaborator, Leah McCloskey and I got used to “Covid" and I wanted to express that, to show what was still possible and visually appealing at the same time.

The "Covid Picnic" Project became my answer….all picnic blankets,  6 x 6 feet,  sewn in a couple of weeks,  displayed on a large lawn, proper/safe spacing in between, and embellished with a colorful cooler on each one.

The public could walk past them and pick their own spot, a 6 x 6 square, marked in spray paint, for their own picnic on the grass.
